Mekahi Eco-tourism Project:

Mekahi is situated inside the Balipara R.F which is 15 kms away from the Balipara town towards north on way to Bhalukpung. The project site is located just on the side of the road that goes to Bhalukpung and Tawang.

It is very conveniently located. Its only 47 km from the District HQ Tezpur km away from Bhalukpung.
Nearest Railheads :- Rangapara which is 28 km away
Nearest Airport :- Tezpur
 

Regular Bus service from Tezpur, Guwahati, Nagaon, Kaziranga ,Biswanath Charili and all major town of the state comes to Balipra which is only…km away .From Balipara local minibus and autorickshaw runs

Stakeholders: The project is being initiated with the involvement of the following J.F.M.C initially and gradually shall be expanded. So, these are the stakeholder at present .In addition to that the Western Assam Wild life Division shall also be the partner and stakeholder and in return the members of these project help the wild life division in protecting the wild animals. Apart from assisting the forest department in protection of the forest and wild life, they shall create awareness among the public for protection of the environment.

PROJECTAPPROACH:
The Project will adopt an approach combining elements of asset creation, institutional and social development to promote sustainable eco-tourism

Facilities available:

  1. One wayside restaurant /Dhaba
  2. Two Pay and use toilet
  3. One activity centre for holding meeting/conference or training.
  4. Hut for selling local products
  5. Water Rafting in Jia-Bharali River: The water rafting is very popular sport in Jia –Bharali river where lots of people come every year. The Rafting shall be organised by taking the existing raft from the Wild Life division.
  6. Trekking : Trekking inside the plantations areas created by the Eco-Task Force as well as the Chattai hills under the supervision of local guides are available on prior appointment.
  7. Visit to the local tribal vilages : The visit to the neighbouring tribal villagers  to see their lifestyle and culture could also be arranged on prior information .
  8. And above all KANYAKA Eco-tourism resorts :-

Day 01: Arrival at Tezpur
Tezpur,the district HQ of Sonitpur district is one of the most beautiful and pictursque town in Assam.Located at a elevation of   mt from the msl this town has many historical  mouments dating back to   dynasty to see.Its very conveninetly located to visit both the Kaziranga National Park as well as Nameri national Park.Its also the base station for going to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.In Tezpur you could stay in bhumuraguri Eco-tourism lodge .

Day 02: At  Tezpur
You could visit the historical monuments and ruins of Tezpur including the park and of course a morning trekking in Bhumuraguri hills .In the evening transfer to Mekahi for stay.


Day 03: At Mekahi and Nearby Sightseeing Tour
You could start the day by trekking on the side of the river bank amidst new plantations created by the Eco-task force.Then visit the rural areas of nearby areas  where many ethenic tribal village as well as other non tribal villages lives to know their lifestyle.In the afternoon could visit the nearby Tea garden or Tea factory  Return to the lodge in the evening for night stay.

Day 04: Water Rafting in Jia-Bharali River and Visit to Nameri National park
This day of your trip will begin first with a delectable meal and will be followed by a day long excursion to Nameri National Park.The approach to this park begins with the water rafting in Jia baharli river where you could see many varieties of birds .In the midst of the journey you would be taken to a forest camp in Nameri national Park where you could interact with the forests staff and have your simple lunch. If you desire, elephant riding inside the park could be arranged .Afterwards, again the tour starts and reach the lodge in the evening to enjoy local cultural nights.

Day 05:  Departure
On the last day of this Nameri Tour with Kanyaka Eco-tourism, guests will be served a scrumptious meal and then will be taken to Tezpur for onward journey to Kaziranga National Park or to Guwahati.  If you plan to go to Tawang, then you could start your journey early in the morning from here.
