Community Information Centre

Community Information Centre (CIC) :

The Community Information Centre (CIC) project was sponsored by Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (C & IT) , Govt. of India in the year 2000. The main objective of this project was to establish the IT facilities at Block level in the North Eastern Region of the Country including Sikkim for the rapid socio-economic development. The centres at block level known as Community Information Centre (CIC). Under this project all 487 development blocks of north eastern region including Sikkim are included for this project, out of which 219 in Assam.

Objectives :

The project aims to achieve the following objectives :

IT awareness among local people

Computer Training Programmes

Facilities through Internet services

Information and Communication Technology (I & CT) application

at Block level

Access to Socio-Economic databases

E-Governance applications, G2C services etc.

ASHA Project :

Recently Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam launched a website named www.assamagribusiness.nic.in in which CICs will be actively used. The idea of this site is to bring the Farmers, Government functionaries, Scientists, Traders, NGOs, Bankers and Private sector together. The services will be available only through CICs and will be paid service.
